Durham Garbage Collection Rates #1…

Author: Valerie

…in my book. We had a hurby curby-sized amount of trash because I missed the New Year’s late pickup day. I put it all in a mega lawn bag and laid it hopefully next to our bins. Note, they’re not responsible for taking anything that’s not IN the trash can, but by gosh, they picked it up anyway. These guys always go the extra mile!

Well, there are myriad reasons to appreciate Durham. Let trash collection be one of them! yay

Ya know, I’ve lived or worked in or regularly visited several of the cities or almost-metropolitan areas in North Carolina, and IMHO Durham is one of the neatest. I mean, unless there’s a major storm with hurricane-ish winds, you don’t see a lot of litter blowing around like you do in other cities. Folks may not immediately see the depth of the benefits the sanitation workers bring, but they DO go above and beyond, and it shows. Yea, trash dudes!!

I agree. They do a great job, as do the recycling crews. Kudos should also go to the street sweepers, who come frequently to my (Trinity Heights) street and make a real difference. We should give them all some help by picking up the trash that gets thrown around the landscape in the meantime–a couple of pieces picked up each day (with the bottles and cans recycled) by a lot of people would make a tremendous difference.

Yes, that’s a great idea! We do that–we often pick up trash on the way from our car into stores and also if it blows into our yard. The kids say, “Ooo, Litter Bug!” when they see trash on the sidewalk.

And I forgot about the street sweepers. That’s a benefit of living in the city. And so fun to watch.
